T he new Fujifilm F- 250 (Tungsten) and F-250D (Daylight) camera negative films are poised to enter the marketplace in the early summer. This now totally completes the very substantial major upgrade and improvements to the entire Super-F series stocks, which were first revealed in the recent Exposure article on the new F-500 high speed tungtsen
negative film in the last issue.
These new films, like the other
new products in the Super-F family, have much improved exposure latitude and colour saturation and will provide images of superb quality when used in a wide variety of shooting situations.
Following the great success of the new F-500 demonstration film, Fuji in London were thrilled to be asked again by Tokyo to co-ordinate the production of a F-250/250D demo film for world- wide use.
Fujifilm’s Bob Quinn takes up the story: “As with the F-500 demo, we want- ed to shoot something of real produc- tion value. The new F-250 films are much more in the general purpose category and so we needed to show them off in a wide variety of lighting conditions.
“Marcus Dillistone, who directed
and produced the demo, came up with Splat, a neat little script based on a paintball game with a twist. This allowed us to shoot both day and night exteri- ors and interiors with a great variety of lighting com- binations, showing off the film stocks’ performance with both bright and subtle colours. Dillistone also included some splendid special effects and compos- ite shots to increase the scope and add to the pro- duction value.”
Both the 250 Tungsten and Daylight versions were shot together and the film demonstrates how well they cut together.
“The film was shot in both 35mm and Super 16mm, with Telecine transfers to Digi-Beta. This
time we decided to use the Spirit Datacine for tele- cine transfer and the results are exceptional.
“We were especially delighted to have a fur- ther four DPs on board for the production: Tony Imi BSC, Ronnie Taylor BSC, Geoff Boyle and Zubin Mistry. So it was that at the end of February we spent the entire four days shoot in a muddy wood in Surrey just off the M25 and in very variable
weather conditions. Nevertheless it was a great deal of fun and a number of those involved may well go on to become Paintball experts.”
The new stocks will become available in early June and a series of presentations is planned at which Splat and other demo films (F-64D, F-125 and F-500) will be shown. Do check with the Fujifilm Motion Picture office for details (0171 586 5900).
