REALA 500D NEGATIVE FILM
At the 143rd SMPTE Technical Conference in New York on November 6, Fujifilm announced the introduction of their new Motion Picture Negative film, Reala 500D.
Reala 500D is a high (500) speed daylight balanced negative film with fine grain, exceptionally natural colour reproduction and wide mixed lighting tolerance.
This is the first time Fujifilm’s pro- prietary 4th colour layer technology has been incorporated into a motion picture film.
This technology corrects the Spectral Sensitivity of the film so that it matches the human eye in the way it sees colour, resulting in very natural colour reproduction and a tolerance of mixed lighting conditions never achievedbefore.4thlayertechnology works particularly well in a daylight balanced film.
Reala 500D joins Fujifilm’s Super F-Series family and, like them, is processed in the Standard Motion Picture ECN2 process used by all motion picture labs worldwide
Now Fujifilm introduces 4th colour layer technology to motionpicture
camera film
In particular, the film offers the following benefits:
• Can be used to shoot from before dawn until after dusk.
• No need to gel windows when shoot- ing interiors or use conversion filters when shooting exteriors.
• Greater depth-of-field when using long focal length prime and zoom lenses.
• Suitable for filming in mixed-light locations like hospitals, schools, pub- lic buildings, stations, airports etc. •Clearandnaturalcolourinthe viewfinder even in dark outdoor shooting.
• Suitable for shooting with HMI lighting. • Excellent for under-water and wildlife cinematography.
• Excellent for Hi-speed photography and filming TV & PC monitors and displays.
• Excellent for low-light circumstances and poor weather conditions.
• Really faithful colour reproduction; superb flesh-tones, excellent neutrals, and notoriously difficult colours such as blues, purples and olive-greens reproduce accurately.
To demonstrate the versatility of Reala 500D Fujifilm commissioned a short film, The Glow, from Glory Film Co which incorporates numerous scenes specially designed to include mixed light and ‘difficult’ colours.
Three cinematographers - Thierry Arbogast AFC, John de Borman BSC and Tony Pierce-Roberts BSC - worked on the film. An article on the making of The Glow will be published in the next issue of EXPOSURE. ■
