tor Gurinder Chadha’s It’s A Wonderful Afterlife, which started shooting last month, is
a supernatural comedy about an In- dian mother who takes her obses- sion with marriage into frighteningly funny territory.
Chadha has also written the screenplay with her long-standing writing partner and husband, Paul Mayeda Berges.
Building on Chadha's record
for discovering new talent – most recently in her last film Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging – the protagonist is played by newcomer, Goldy Notay. She is joined by Sally Hawkins, Zoe Wanamaker, Mark Addy, Jimi Mistry, Sanjeev Bhaskar,
Shabana Azmi, Shaheen Khan and Heroes actor Sendhil Ramamurthy. The cinematographer is Dick Pope BSC with whom she worked for the first time on Angus, Thongs.
Said Chadha: “I am thrilled to be making another British movie in the West London suburbs of Southall and Ealing with a true feeling of the Ealing comedies of Michael Balcon I so admire. This is also my tribute to one of the great directors, Frank Capra, and my all-time favourite movie, It’s a Wonderful Life.”
