2016 BAGI BOARD CANDIDATES
MEET THE CANDIDATES
JEFF LANGSTON
OLD TOWN DESIGN GROUP BUILDER
WHY DO YOU WANT TO SERVE ON THE BAGI BOARD OF DIRECTORS?
I believe that my experience as past president of the Hamilton County Council and years on the board combined with my current business as developer, custom home builder, and multi‐family developer provide me with unique insights into our industry and needs of our members.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION AS A POTENTIAL BOARD MEMBER?
My vision is to continue to bring the perspective of both builder and associate members to BAGI board decisions. Specifically continuing to make sure BAGI focuses on areas of the most value to members and areas where BAGI can have the greatest impact.
HOW ARE YOU CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH BAGI?
I am currently serving on the Board of Directors of BAGI - and have been a participant of the last 2 Home-A-Rama’s.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT POSITION AND WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS/HOBBIES?
I am one of the owner/partners of Old Town Design Group and Old Town Development. I enjoy watching my kids sports and maintaining salt water fish tanks.
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES FACING THE RESIDENTIAL INDUSTRY AND HOW CAN BAGI ADDRESS THEM? The most important issues facing our industry are increasing government regulation
andshortageofskilledlabor. HOW HAVE YOUR EXPERIENCES IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE?
With my involvement in BAGI having stretched over 15 years it has been a central part of the growth of our
company. BAGI’s variety of programs providing continuing education and industry insights combined with the extensive network of both fellow builders and subcontractors has proven invaluable in developing our building processes and buildingteams. Inaddition,byprovidingauniqueframeworkoflike-mindedindividuals whocarenotonlyaboutour industry but about the end product, I have developed friendships that will last me a lifetime.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO SERVE ON THE BAGI BOARD OF DIRECTORS? As a small business owner of a home building company, I feel that involvement in BAGI is the best solution to the problems that challenge our community and industry. I am confident that my experiences and ideas can be of help to the organization and its members. With over 20 years of experience as both a large volume and mid-size builder, I believe that as a BAGI board member, I can help positively affect change by promoting and educating our industry and our association, and by strategically working through some of the industry wide challenges.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION AS A POTENTIAL BOARD MEMBER? My vision is to become more involved in the development and education of a board that is apart of the new generation of families buying homes. Over the past decade, this industry has faced significant changes in technology, product development, social media, workforce development and communication. The board’s success lies in recruiting persuasive, intelligent and committed members who are able to devote the time and effort necessary to make a difference. I envision myself being an integral part of how the association and the members of our industry work together to respond and innovate in the years ahead.
HOW ARE YOU CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH BAGI? As a 2015 BAGI board member, I have been able to experience how the association goes about positively influencing our industry. I have enjoyed being involved in meetings as well as BAGI events and look forward to continuing to be a part of the association for many years.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT POSITION AND WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS/HOBBIES?
President and Owner of Pyatt Builders - Carmel, IN. I am a sports enthusiast, with a passion for football, college and pro, as well as all other things sports related! My wife and I love to travel. We have spent a lot of time camping throughout the US in our RV and enjoying boating on the weekends. My wife Jennifer works with me at Pyatt Builders and just gave birth to two twin baby boys, Liam and Dylan Pyatt. We are a busy family!
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES FACING THE RESIDENTIAL INDUSTRY
AND HOW CAN BAGI ADDRESS THEM? LAND: The lack of developed home sites and the future inventory of developed home sites is a huge concern. Having BAGI help facilitate the communication between Land Developers, Builders and financial institutions could be beneficial to the understanding of the issues, the need for lots, and the objections to overcome. TRADE CAPACITY: As our industry continues to grow and get back to the levels prior to the downturn, we have experienced a growing trend of a lack of trade capacity and specifically skilled trade capacity. This is an issue that must be addressed. BAGI’s influence in promotion and education of the industry to our schools, trade programs and general workforce must be a top objective.
HOW HAVE YOUR EXPERIENCES IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE?
Being part of the growth in the residential building industry over the past few years has been an incredible experience. Pyatt Builders has been able to increase its staffing, move into a larger office space, and most importantly start, build and close more homes than we budgeted. Therefore, more families were able to experience the American dream of owning their own home. The support from BAGI and the relationships developed has been a great encouragement to our entire company. As we look ahead to 2016, we have expanded our vision and are preparing for the continual challenges of growth. While the growth has been humbling, I am encouraged to see our staff grow and take on additional responsibilities that can not only help with their personal satisfaction, but can also prepare them to provide a positive experience for more customers.
