2017 BAGI BOARD CANDIDATES
MEET THE CANDIDATES
SCOTT MAIRN
PULTE GROUP, INC. BUILDER
WHY DO YOU WANT TO SERVE ON THE BAGI BOARD OF DIRECTORS?
The impact of the building industry to the overall Indianapolis economy is and should be of signi cant impact. Working with the membership as a member of the board will allow our impact to heard and felt in the greater economy of the market we serve. Our leadership will be critical in the overall impact BAGI will have.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION AS A BOARD MEMBER?
The building industry has to have a deeper and more recognizable impact in the overall economy. My vision is
to ensure that the issues impacting our membership from realizing this opportunity is a priority and we need
to make certain the board holds the BAGI organization accountable to accomplish the needs of the membership.
HOW ARE YOU CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH BAGI? New to the area and recently relocated with Pulte. Joining the organization with my Pulte colleagues who are already active participants.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT POSITION AT WORK?
Division President with PulteGroup for the Indianapolis and Louisville markets.
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES FACING THE RESIDENTIAL INDUSTRY AND HOW CAN BAGI ADDRESS THEM? Government and Municipality affairs is a constant and something BAGI needs
to continue to provide focus and leadership. Rising land and construction cost are two aspects that impact our ability to continue to make Indianapolis a desirable place to start/raise a family or retire. The requirements of municipalities being imposed on the industry are making this more and more dif cult.
Skilled labor force also puts capacity restraints on all of us to deliver on the demand in the marketplace. Programs to encourage and support the opportunity that is there in our industry would be of great bene t to the membership.
HOW HAVE YOUR EXPERIENCES IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE?
Been fortunate to work in 3 vastly different markets (SW Florida, Northern VA, and Indianapolis/Louisville), all
different sizes and serving different buyer pro les. Regardless of demographic we build perhaps the largest investment any one person will make in their lifetime. The appreciation of why we do what we do has had a great impact on how
I live my life. The appreciation and social responsibility we have as leaders in the building industry to the consumers who trust us to build their homes is humbling experience that impacts every single day of my life.
LASTLY, WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS/HOBBIES? Enjoy playing golf and supporting my kids in their
sports activities. Have a son (20) who plays college football at West Liberty University, another son (14) who is a member
of the Indiana Mustangs 14u travel baseball organization, and my youngest son (9) is currently playing basketball in Carmel.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO SERVE ON THE BAGI BOARD OF DIRECTORS?
The BAGI Board exists to serve its members. I would like to be a part of helping our membership navigate the current issues we are facing.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION AS A BOARD MEMBER?
I would like to work with the great team at BAGI and other board member to utilize our cumulative years of experience to navigate current issues facing our members.
HOW ARE YOU CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH BAGI?
I sit on the board of BPCI.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT POSITION AT WORK?
I own and operate a custom homebuilding business.
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES FACING THE RESIDENTIAL INDUSTRY AND HOW CAN BAGI ADDRESS THEM?
Homebuilders face labor shortages. BAGI can help by promoting trade schools to young adults
making career decisions. Short term BAGI can educate builders on maximizing ef ciencies with
existing trade partners.
HOW HAVE YOUR EXPERIENCES IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY INFLUENCED YOUR LIFE?
At the end of the day we are interfacing and building relationships with customers, vendors, and employees, so work is just an extension of my life. I always ask how I can improve relationships and listen and communicate better with all people?
