BUILDING PERMITS
Single-Family Permit Numbers Continue to Fuel Economic Development
Indianapolis, IN – The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI) announced that in the Greater Indianapolis Nine-County area, Single-Family Building Permits rose 14 percent last month compared to August 2016 numbers. 4,266 new home permits have been issued year-to-date compared to 3,981
last year.
“New home construction is a key component of local economic development,” says Steve Lains, BAGI CEO. “Housing brings growth of all types: commercial, retail, and
industrial – bringing with it new jobs and additional tax revenues for the community. We particularly see this kind of growth in communities like Hamilton County, yet again pulling in the most permits this month, and is one of the reasons we chose to host this year’s First Internet Bank Home-A-Rama in West eld.”
Marion County follows Hamilton County’s 1,560 permits with 745 permits issued this month. Morgan and Johnson Counties continue to see the most signi cant percentage
increases compared to their numbers last year, with 25 and 20 percent increases respectively.
In the Greater Indianapolis Nine-County region, the permits issued in August 2017 have created a total economic impact of $763,971,504 in local income, $173,434,179 in local taxes, and
12,935 local jobs (see chart below).
