The Dental Entrepreneur
The best way to predict your future is
to create it”
Peter F. Drucker
CHAPTER 16
The Future of Dentistry….by design
I think the private practice of dentistry may look a little different a decade from now than it does
today. Corporate dentistry will have a fairly significant piece of the pie, but the dentist who
really stays current on all the technological changes that are taking place and relentlessly
delivers on the value proposition being sought by consumers will prosper beyond their wildest
dreams.
The “total health” or oral systemic movement, which is very much in its infancy today, should
make significant strides in establishing what the future may look like. A new standard of care
should emerge and the increasing percentage of practitioners embracing the medical model of
practice should find themselves leaders in highly sought after “fee for service” arena . The shift
to the health centered practice model will bring the medical and dental communities together in
an unprecedented fashion in order to achieve better overall health outcomes.
My first book “starting and building a dental practice in the 21 century” written in 1995 was
st
spot on in so many of the predictions I made about the movement toward the acceptance of
marketing, management by the numbers, and getting dialed in to how best serve the patient.
My current work and next handbook will be the further exploration of the practice of the next
decade where I believe “wellness” will be the mantra. I will be unveiling an oral wellness portal,
operations manual, and online course in the very near future.
As always, I wish you the very best in your journey toward a happy, balanced, independent
And abundant life. Tom
