CHAPTER 8
Office Planning and Design
Office planning and design is a critical part of the overall picture of starting a dental practice
but don’t get too overwhelmed here. There are not that many ways you can lay out an efficient
flow in a 1200 sq foot strip mall space. Your local dental supply dealer will assist you with any
type of layout as a goodwill gesture for the opportunity to get your supply business long term
Since we are not building a building and basically remodeling a space, I think this is well within
the averages person ability to act as their own general contractor. Remember my philosophy,
the more outside experts you get to with the fairly straight forward projects, the deeper in debt
you go.
Being Your Own General Contractor
A general contractor is the person who overseas the various subcontracting aspects of your
project. The subcontracting in an office remodel will fall under the following categories.
•Framing
•Drywall
•Finish Carpentry
•Plumbing
•Electrical
•HVAC (Heat and Air)
•Floor Covering
•Paint
