On March 22, The National Organization for Women (NOW) will be hosting along with KBBF 89.1FM and Women’s Spaces “Women in Politics Panel Discussion” with Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, Susan Gorin, Lynda Hopkins and Shirlee Zane. It was a major historic milestone when its three female members were sworn into o ce, marking the rst time the ve-member body has a majority of women. Community Engagement Fair & Volunteering
On January 29th, KBBF was 1 of 103 activist and service organizations participating at the North Bay Community Engagement Fair at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds. Of the thousands of people in attendance, many eagerly signed up to volunteer at the station. All have since come in to identify skills they have or are willing to develop, from writing, computer, artistic and technical skills related to radio broadcasting to organizing events. Streaming & NEW Website
As promised, KBBF is now streaming online. Historically, its signal reached 18 Northern California counties but as of December can be heard worldwide. We are now redesigning the website to include extensive information and be more user-friendly. Our present website is kbbf-fm.org. To support the station, you can still donate online using either PayPal or a credit card.
NEW PROGRAMS
In the past couple months, we’ve added a few new shows to our program schedule. La Mejor Version de Ti, a self-help themed show with Mariana Alvarez, airs Tuesdays at 6-7 PM.
Foro del Ruido, alternative music in Spanish with Ricardo Ibara, airs on Friday 4-6 PM. Nora Villanueva is the new DJ on Tonos Clasicos, classical music with a Latin connection,
Wednesdays 9-11 PM.
Women in Politics Panel Discussion
KBBF, its program Women’s Spaces, and NOW (National Organization for Women) will host a Women in Politics panel discussion. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors celebrated a major historic milestone when its three female members were sworn into office, marking the first time the five-member body has been composed of mostly women. The panel will have an open discussion on the challenges of being a woman in politics. You are welcome to join us for this free event at 1700 Corby Ave. Suite B, March 22 from 4-6 PM.

KBBF receives phone calls from people wanting to let us know about alleged immigration raids at local workplaces. While we take these calls very seriously, we need to confirm any raids before we can put the information on the air. During the February 14, 2017 Santa Rosa city Council meeting the council unanimously voted to enter into an agreement with the Sonoma County Library to assist the city in creating a new video public access facility in library branches within the territorial limits of the city of Santa Rosa. Funding for this new program is made possible through a portion of the revenues from the Public, Education (PEG) fees in the annual amount of $150,000 per year to the Sonoma County library.
Background: For twenty years a media center was in operation in Santa Rosa. Operating under the Community Center and later changed to CMedia provided the residents of Santa Rosa and surrounding areas to have access to equipment and training to produce and air local programs. In late October 2016 an audit revealed there was a misuse of funds which led to the termination of both the director and assistant director along with the majority of sta . At the Santa Rosa city council meeting in December 2016 the council terminated its contract with CMedia, the nonpro t organization that provided public access media services to the city of Santa Rosa and surrounding area. To ll the gap at that time it was also recommended by the Information Technology Department for the city that the City Council by resolution approved an agreement with the Sonoma County Library.
Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month. In 1980, the National Women’s History Project (NWHP) was founded in Santa Rosa, California by Molly Murphy MacGregor, Mary Ruthsdotter, Maria Cuevas, Paula Hammett and Bette Morgan to broadcast women’s historical achievements. NWHP started by leading a coalition that successfully lobbied Congress to designate March as National Women’s History Month and In 1987, after being petitioned by the NWHP Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March as Women’s History Month. Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women’s History Month.
The 2017 theme is “Honoring Trailblazing Women in Labor and Business.” Those honored have successfully challenged the role of women in both business and the paid labor force. Women have always worked, but often their work has been undervalued and unpaid. Happy Anniversary “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Musical, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, The Charles M. Schulz Museum’s new exhibition, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, on view until July 16, 2017 celebrates the long- running success of this acclaimed stage production and features rare items, including original production scripts lled with handwritten notations and drawings, playbills and programs from worldwide performances, original musical score sheets, and cast photographs.
On March 4th there will be a special Charlie Brown Cast Day where people who voiced or played one of the Peanuts characters will get free admission. Photographs from all over the world of many of past performances of the play will be on display. The Museum is located at 2301 Hardies Lane, Santa Rosa. For more information go to schulzmuseum.org.
