I am writing this on a very hot afternoon! It is not unusual for us to have warm weather at this time of the year, but it is still a bit worrying! The large redwoods outside of my airy cyber-hut provide much appreciated shade!
I want to pass on to you Cazadero resident Judith Heineman’s very valid concern and request for us all to slow down! I totally agree—folks need to
stop passing illegally (in a no-passing zone) and to not tail-gate! Both of these practices cause accidents and are completely preventable. I know that everyone is in a big hurry to get to their destination, but the small amount of time that you think that you are gaining is an illusion!!
My deep condolences to the family and friends of Emilio Porta,
who recently passed away at 86. Emilio was a wonderful person, complete gentleman and avid volunteer in Cazadero. I so enjoyed our conversations in Spanish regarding his home country of Argentina.
The recent Cazadero Old Time BBQ was a big success, with many coming out to the Music Camp for a busy day of delicious food, games, big raffle and cameraderie! To the many volunteers from the sponsoring Cazadero Community Club and beyond—Thank You!
Come One, Come All!
More fabulous volunteers, led by firefighter Tony Goodwin and Chief Steve Krausmann did a wonderful job painting of Firehall #1!
The next meeting of the Caz Club will be on 10/1 and possibly on November 5th- 1st Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. also at the Firehall. Join your neighbors to help plan great events which benefit the entire community. Coming up next on saturday, October 26th will be the Appreciation Dinner, which celebrates the Fire Deparments and Cazadero Community Club members. With a Luau theme this year, including a whole roast pig, this feast promises fun and a good dinner for all who attend. More info will be coming to you soon.

We have a huge speeding problem here in Rio Nido. Drivers are out of control. Speeding on Canyon 6 and 7 and Sequoia. Two pets have been run over on Canyon 7 and killed. There are conversations regarding speedbumps being installed due to careless drivers.
There are LOTS of events for us to enjoy!
Students at Montgomery Elementary School, including visits by local performers and a field trip to a pumpkin farm. October 31st features the school’s fabulous Harvest Celebration.
Neighbors are banding together and taking down license plate numbers and reporting to DMV and the CHP. Several have already been reported.

Pet of the Month:
Minka Minx is a four year old Chihuahua. She is a Rescue from the Green Dog Rescue Project in Healdsburg. She is a very sweet girl who loves her humans and her siblings. She is a lover and especially loves to snuggle with her Daddy. She is a lounge lizard and her favorite past time is to burrow under the bed covers, and not to forget this girl loves her doggy treats. She can sniff them out a mile away!

the Kiddos for some Goulish and Spooktacular fun! Candy and refreshments on this Devilish evening! Starts at 6pm. Dare to putt!
When living on the river, we see quite the array of abandoned trailers and vehicles. Its a darn shame and irresponsible to leave these clunkers for the Community to deal with. No need to fret though, it takes one call
to the Sheriff who will come out and tag them and then they get towed. The number to call is 707 565-7395.
RN Post Office Update:
It appears that our beloved post office will be open to us Rio Nidans in the very near future. It will however be unstaffed, but you will be able to retrieve your mail there. Stay tuned...
Our beautiful red sign was damaged by either a trailer or a utility vehicle and will need to be repaired. FRN is currently working on this process. Clare Harris of Johnsons Beach fame has generously offered to pay for lighting the sign for us! How exciting! More to come..
Land Donation:
The Clare Harris family is in talks with Friend of Rio Nido about a possible donation of the upper portions of land in RN. The land has the potemtial to be used for hiking trails since it cannot be developed. So we shall see what transpires. This could be quite an asset to our community!
