back into history in Santa Rosa/Sonoma Country 2018 is the 40th anniversary of Women’s History Week (the week of March 8, 1978), which
led to the celebration of National Women’s History Month in March, but few people know that since its inception in 1980, the National Women’s History Project (NWHP) has been headquartered here in Santa Rosa and In honor of Women’s History Month, Molly Murphy MacGregor, Executive Director and Co-Founder, Chair of the National Women’s History Project Board of Directors will give a talk about the history NWHP, its impact on women, and its future at the Sonoma County Museum.
MacGregor is a former high school social studies teacher who has worked
for over 35 years in the eld of gender equity and women’s history. Her work in the eld of multicultural women’s history has been widely recognized including awards from the National Education Association, the US Department of Education, and the National Association for Multicultural Education, and the Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education Leadership. The event is happening Thursday, March 15th with a meet-the-speaker reception
at 6:30pm and the talk beginning at 7:00pm at the Sonoma County Museum, located at 425 7th St, Santa Rosa, CA 95401.

Santa Rosa Democratic Women Honored at 2018
Awards Ceremony/Crab Feed At the Sonoma County Democratic Party Annual Crab Feed & Awards Dinner two Santa Rosa women were honored this year. The crab feed has become known statewide for bringing together hundreds of local and regional Democrats. Originating as the Trowbridge Dinner, the crab feed has changed and grown to include their annual awards.
For 2018 Linda Hemmingway lead organizer for Organizing For Action Sonoma County (OFA) was chosen as Democrat of the Year. OFA is part of a long line of people who have stepped up to take on the big ghts for social justice, basic fairness, equal rights, and expanding opportunity to everyone. Hemmingway attributes the success of the organization to the dedicated volunteers. Mary Watts was awarded the Young Democrat of the Year award. Watts is the Deputy Director for Community Action partnership and is Representative Jim Woods’ alternate on the Democratic Central Committee. Beth Hadley, Coordinator for OFA, Sonoma Valley chapter received the Roberta Howell Award. Howell was a mainstay of the Sonoma County Democratic Party. Throughout her life she was active in a host of issues that bene ted from her skills and contacts.
Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) Reception for Santa
Rosa’s Time Capsule On March 16, 1968, two capsules were buried in Old Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa. About 1,000 people came to the dedication ceremony for the two capsules, one to be opened in 2018, and the second to be opened in 2068. On March 17, 2018 from 10-11am the rst time capsule will be opened in a ceremony at the new Courthouse Square, and afterwards, will be brought to the History Museum to be displayed to the general public.
On March 24 starting from 1pm there will be reception at the Sonoma County History Museum to celebrate Santa Rosa’s 150 years and view the time capsule’s contents on display. Anthologist professor Margaret Purser of Sonoma State will be doing a review of the capsule. A special showing of
