Post Of ce Ch-Ch-Changes A big personnel shu e is happening in 94951. Well wishes to Sharon Lemos who retired after 23 years with the USPS. Mary is not returning, and the temporary OIC (o cer in charge ) is now Astrid Shishkin Hill. Astrid has put her hat In the ring (bid) to run our PO. Astrid has done a super job on maintenance contracts for building and grounds. Brandie Wilson may not be there much longer. Heads up: there will be di erent people who won’t know all our names, etc. As no one will likely be 40 hrs./ week, expect sta ng to be 30 - 35 hrs./wk. including Sat. Have your incoming packages addressed to your PO Box. If your vendor doesn’t ship to POBs, use the PO’s street address plus the number of your PO Box. Example: 11041 Main St., # (your POB).
Yanni’s Moves On Yanni’s Sausage Grill will close on March 1 to concentrate on their retail distribution. Luckily, the little Penngrove shop will have a new owner, Tom Adams, who will o er Yanni’s sausage on the menu. Look for Yanni’s great sausage products in retail stores. yannissausages.com.
It put tears in my eyes to say goodbye to Yanni’s Sausages of Penngrove, or was that the “Jalapeño Popper” sausage sandwich speaking. The nal monthly special to run through the hands of Francesca and Johnny was as delicious as ever, and really brought home what an impact Yanni’s has had on me and so many others.

The always-free Writers Forum presenter Abigail Samoun, March 15, from 6:30 - 8:30pm at Copper eld’s Books in Petaluma for her presentation of The Children’s Publishing Process Revealed. “Abigail Samoun will discuss the various stages involved in getting a book acquired. She will talk us through one book’s journey in the publishing process: Catching an editor’s eye, developing a manuscript, describing the editor’s role in getting the book through the acquisition process, signing the contract, working with the editor on nalizing the manuscript, and sending it to press.” An in-house children’s book editor for over a decade, in 2011, Abigail became an agent, co-founding Red Fox Literary with Karen Grencik. thewritespot.us for more info on the Writers Forum.
 I grew up in Penngrove,
and until Yanni’s, only
visited for the 4th of July
Parade and the various
feeds held up the hill at the
Penngrove Social Firemen’s
Club. When Yanni’s opened
in 2010, Penngrove was
forever changed for the
better. I wrote their rst ever
review on Yelp, the moment
I returned home from their
shop, in part because of the great food, but also because Francesca and Johnny were such nice people.
The Seed Bank is moving. Although the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company picked the perfect name for their location, which has been in the historic Sonoma National Bank building at the corner of Petaluma Blvd N and Washington St for nearly a decade, the company has decided to go back to their roots...and concentrate more on their seeds than the various farm sundries they have been stocking in their large space. Thankfully, they are not moving far, so you will still be able to park wherever you normally did in order to visit the Seed Bank, and walk to their new location. They estimate that by March, they will be moved in to their new digs at 110 Petaluma Blvd N, which less than a block south of their current location, across the street from the Odd Fellows’ building, which currently houses three Petaluma icons—Vine & Barrel, Ooh La Luxe, and Sake 107.
Although we missed a few monthly specials here and there, we have relished our regular visits with Francesca and Johnny. As they continued to garner accolades, those two were always at the center of every review, because they are truly wonderful people. They always greeted us with smiles, brought us laughs, and never failed to ask about how absent family members were doing. As a half joke, my mother once told them that she thought it would be funny to surprise the family with Yanni’s Thanksgiving in a Link sandwich for Thanksgiving. They thought it was a great idea and not only taught her how to replicate their special, but also supplied her with all the special ingredients. This deliciously became a tradition that we will miss dearly.
Speaking of those three shops, Vine & Barrel carries all the best local wines, as well as some surprising imports, like the excellent Porto Meneres LBV 2012. Ooh La Luxe seems to be the fairer sexes’ favorite place to shop for clothes in Petaluma, evidenced by the fact that they regularly win the “Best Boutique” category of the Petaluma People’s Choice Awards. And Chef Ando is serving up some incredible Japanese cuisine at Sake 107, including the best Ramen I have ever had, as well his incredible Omakase Sashimi platter.
I look forward to getting their wonderful sausages at all our local grocery stores, but will truly miss knowing that I could always stop into Yanni’s for good cheer and great sausage sandwich specials. Yοοδ τύχη! (Translation: Good Luck in Greek).
