Apr 2 ~ Nonviolence and Human Destiny
Registration is now open for the Spring session, which will be hosted at Occidental Arts & Ecology Center, an 80-acre research, demonstration, education, advocacy and community-organizing center in West Sonoma County, California. This is the third year in operation for Sonoma County Writers Camp. The rst-time addition of a fall camp session makes for three distinct deep-dive opportunities for writers during ve-day sessions limited to 24 participants. The other 2018 Topics are: Beg, Borrow, Steal: What We Can Learn from Different Genres (August 8 - 12), Scene Making: the Essence of Storytelling (October 10 - 14).
Characters are at the heart of all our stories. Readers fall in love with our characters, and it’s through that emotional connection that they’re moved by our stories. All of us have a marvelous laboratory with which to explore what it means to be a human being: ourselves and the people around us. Yet getting characters to fully inhabit our stories can be a challenge. This camp session will explore approaches to writing that will bring your characters–invented or remembered–to dynamic, compelling life.
Sonoma County Writers Camp (SCWC) is pleased to announce that we will be bringing Cynthia Silver, award-winning NYC-based stage & lm director, actor, and acting teacher to present a master class for writers during our spring 2018 SCWC session (April 25 - 29). Silver will address this session’s theme, “Compelling Characters: Bringing People to Life on the Page,” along with other published authors and experts in the literary industry including founders and camp teachers, best-selling author Ellen Sussman and writer/ lmmaker Elizabeth Stark, both Sebastopol residents.
