Welcome to the club! I just turned 50 last month.
As always, email me at dongibblecast@hotmail.com with any film or theater
June is packed with movies you have to see at the local movie theater. Starting with “The Secret Life Of Pets 2” Usually I’m not excited about sequels but this one is different. Movies about dogs just make me happy. Who can resist the further adventures of Max the dog and his furry animal friends. Starring the voice talents of Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish and Dana Carvey. Perfect for the whole family. It opens June 7th.
Also opening June 7th is “Dark Phoenix” starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. The X Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control.
Also opening June 7th is “Late Night” starring Emma Thompson and John Lithgow. A late night talk show host’s world is turned upside down when she hires her first female staff writer.
If you’re an Emma Thompson fan you will be happy to know that a week later she has another movie coming out with “Men in Black: International”. It opens June 14th and also stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. Agent H and Agent M employ high tech weaponry to battle mischievious aliens on Earth. Samuel L Jackson fans will run to see “Shaft” also opening June 14th. It also stars Method Man. When his friend dies under mysterious circumstances, an FBI cyber security expert joins forces with his father – the legendary cop John Shaft – to scour the streets of Harlem to uncover the truth.
Opening June 21st is the long awaited
“Toy Story 4”. Starring the voice talents of
Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and, yes, Keanu Reeves. Woody, Buzz, and the rest
of the gang embark on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy named Forky. Also opening June 21st is a remake of “Child’s Play” starring Aubrey Plaza and Mark Hammil. After moving to a new city, young Andy receives a special present from his mother, a seemingly innocent doll that becomes his friend.
Opening June 28th is “Yesterday”. Starring Himesh Patel and Kate McKinnon. Jack Malick is a struggling singer-songwriter in an English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading. After a freak bus accident, Jack wakes up to dicover that the Beatles never existed. Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, Jack becomes an overnight sensation with a little help from his agent.
There’s a lot of live theater to go to this month. One of my favorite events in New York is the annual “Broadway Bares” charity event. You are lucky it’s coming to San Francisco June 16th. One of the best comic writers, Bruce Vilanch is headlining with Jai Rodriguez and a lot of their friends. Go
to their website for more information. WWW. Reaf-sf.org/broadway-bares-sf- strips-4-comic-strips.html and my friend Lawrence Hellman is their publicist so you know it’s going to be good!
Broadway Under the Stars is presenting “A Chorus Line” from June
14th through June 30th. This is one of the best musicals of all time and this company is awesome so you’re in for a treat. Call 877 424 1414 for tickets. Another amazing musical is “West Side Story” and it opens June 7th and runs through June 30th at the 6th Street Playhouse. Local favorite actors starring include Denise Elia-Yen who plays Anita. Denise played Eliza in “My Fair Lady” and is an amazing director. Ryan Whitlock plays Arab and has been a staple at the 6th Street playing a Phantom in two runs of “Rocky Horror”. Carmen Mitchell plays Maria and starred as Christine in “Phantom of the Opera” and Fantine in “Les Miserables. You cant’s miss this show. Call 707 523 4185 for tickets.
POST your EVENTS online all month @ SonomaCountyGazette.com ONGOING events are ONLINE!
Then there’s “Cabaret” at Lucky Penny in Napa. It runs from this weekend through June 16th. It stars Danny Quezada as Bobby and Brian Watson as the Emcee. Call 707 266 6305 for tickets. For those of you who haven’t seen “Booksmart” or “Aladdin” you have all month to catch up on these gems.
A quick shout out to Kristine Redko who turns 50 this month.
