Customs in the Sultanate of Oman is considered
one of the oldest institutions of administrative
organization at the level of the region, where the
first customs building was built in Muscat in 1624.
Ports of Muscat, Sur and Sohar abounded with an
active commercial movement.
The above mentioned ports were full of active
trade. the first half of the nineteenth century
customs in the Sultanate of Oman underwent
many changes in light of the economic conditions
of that period. In the first half of the twentieth
century, the Sultanate of Oman witnessed many
customs reforms that led to the emergence of the
first Customs legislation written in 1920, which is
the first modern customs system in the Sultanate
of Oman. Anyone who follows the history of
customs in the Sultanate of Oman notes that the
government has paid great attention to this system
as it is of great security importance, and is also
considered one of the most important resources
that supply the state›s general budget.
Directorate General of Customs and Digital
Transformation
Recently, the Directorate General of Customs
witnessed a quantum leap and tangible development
in technical aspects and modern systems. Among
the aspects of modernization and technical
transformation that it worked on was facilitating
customs procedures and operations and upgrading
the level of customs services provided to the
