Selection and installation of key and


      key-seat





      ◦ The key application usually designed after the shaft diameter is specified.

         Shaft  diameter as a guide the size of the key which selected using a table
         ANSI Standard B17.1-1967(R98).


      ◦ Key are most often made from low-carbon, cold drawn steel as table AISI

         1020 CD which contain information about material condition, max tensile

         strength, yield strength, ductility and hardness.


      Key classification:

             1.     saddle key and sunk key

             2.     square key and flat key


             3.     Taper key and parallel key

             4.     Key with and without Gib-head


      Selection of key

             1.     Power to be transmitted
