Direct Sheer Stress On A Key

Key is a one of the machine element which is used to connect the

transmission shaft to rotating machine element like pulley, gear,

sprocket or fly wheel.

Key joint are consisting of shaft, hub and key.

Function of Key are as follow:

◦ To transmit torque from the shaft on the hub of mating
element

◦ To prevent relative rotational motion between the shaft and
the joint machine element like gear or pulley. In most of the

cases, key also prevent axial motion between two element.
