Introduction

“Cherished Memories of Yesteryears - A Collection of Grandparents’ Life Experiences”

is a project initiated by North Spring Primary School to chronicle the narratives of its
students through their conversations with their grandparents. This compilation features
over 100 stories documented by the grandchildren, highlighting the challenges faced and
contributions made by their grandparents during Singapore’s foundational years. These

tales not only give grandparents a platform to share their experiences but also express their
aspirations for the younger generation of Singaporeans. They hope that these narratives
will inspire the youth to excel in their chosen fields and contribute uniquely to Singapore’s
future.

Through this project, we aim to spotlight the relentless dedication of our predecessors
and honour the sacrifices they made. Their efforts laid the groundwork for the dynamic,
efficient, and secure Singapore we cherish today.

This book is published and supported by the National Youth Achievement Award Council
and the Stephen Riady Foundation.
