COMPANY PROFILE
“I believe that a well-planned project and good service is key to providing building
Owners with cost effective, energy efficient and environmentally sound building
systems.” - John F. Penney, P.E.
Established in 1993, in Chester, Vermont, John F. Penney Consulting Services is a mechanical engineering
firm specializing in Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Commissioning.
We also provide energy audit services, retro-commissioning and energy consulting.
DESIGN
JFPCS’s engineering approach to projects is to investigate the mechanical needs and requirements for
heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and fire protection, explore the use of renewable energy
sources and then evaluate the life cycle cost of potential equipment available and systems for installation.
We work closely with building owners to advise on the most cost-effective and energy-efficient systems to
employ in their buildings. As we get to know our clients' facilities and goals, we can provide targeted long-
term services to maintain efficient operations that meet their needs. JFPCS, p.c. has been engaged in green
building design from our inception. A good mechanical system design begins with an energy efficient
envelope. Mechanical systems should be as small as possible to maintain a healthy indoor environment.
COMMISSIONING
JFPCS’ commissioning experience evolved from our mechanical engineering practice. We have been providing
commissioning services for more than 16 years. The LEED process has elevated commissioning to a
prominent place in the design and construction of buildings. JFPCS, p.c. has over three dozen LEED certified
commissioning projects to our credit and nearly 75 non-LEED commissioning projects. We have been
recognized for having the commissioning abilities that increase Owner confidence in the systems of their new
facilities through evaluation, testing and training. The Commissioning Provider should bridge the
communication gap between the Owner's design intent and the contractor's implementation of the design.
Through detailed documentation and Owner training, we can maximize the Owner knowledge at project
completion.
ENERGY EFFICIENT DESIGN
We work with the Design Team to provide the best building envelope economically
possible. An efficient building envelope will reduce the size of the mechanical
systems, reduce energy consumption and prolong the life of the building. We are
currently working on high performance buildings in New Hampshire, Vermont and
Massachusetts using air source heat pumps, biomass and solar for the heating,
cooling and domestic hot water systems. JFPCS, p.c. strives to stay current with the
latest in heating and cooling technology. All recommendations we make are
evaluated with cost, longevity and maintenance in mind. Anticipating the future
cost of fuel has become a challenge.
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY DESIGN
JFPCS, p.c. has several biomass projects to our credit including wood pellet systems,
wood chip systems and cord wood systems. We also have completed a number of
ground source heat pump projects and have designed several thermal solar systems.
Solar systems are a responsible alternative to investigate on any project where
domestic hot water loads are significant. Alternative energy sources that are
sustainable and renewable should always be considered. Our engineering approach
is to strive for sustainability and renewable energy sources on all our projects.
