(Rugby in South Africa | Brand South Africa, 2010). This was basically the first time that many was
proud to be a South African citizen. In 1999 the government implements a quota system in order to
get more black players in our national teams (Home | SA Rugby, 2021).This quota system was then
scrapped in 2007 as it wasn’t working as planned. A new quota system the launched in 2010. (Africa
et al., 2021). This is still the system used today. It is definitely a system that is working as seen in the
last world cup that our rugby team won a lot of the players were of colour. S.A was also lead by a
black captain to win the last rugby world cup (The History of South Africa ‘A’ | SA Rugby Stats, 2012).
Rugby really brings people from all walks of life together in South Africa especially when winning a
world cup.
Rugby is giving all races a fair opportunity by having the quota system. There was never equal
opportunity for all races in our country before. By having the quota system in sport is allowing our
generation to develop a mindset of equality which is amazing. It always us to see pass race.
