Greetings, everyone! It’s Ken Zipovsky, and I’m
pleased to bring you the winter edition of our training
and technology update. We are working on four new
MIST courses for 2026. Progress is on schedule, and
these courses will be live on January 1st.

Legal Updates
Crisis Intervention
Responding to Child Abuse Investigations
Trauma-Informed Policing
I am also happy to announce that we will have an
Animal Cruelty Investigations course shortly. We are
working with Humane Action Pennsylvania and the
Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office to develop
an on-line training course to add to the PAVTN library.
PCPA will apply for this course to have 3 CLEE credits
if used as a MIST elective. Substantial progress has
been made, and I anticipate the course going live
around the same time as the 2026 MIST courses.
We are continuously enhancing your PAVTN training
experience with system improvements. One of our
initiatives is developing a keyword search feature for
the site. Once implemented, officers will be able to
find relevant training by simply entering a keyword.

For instance, an officer searching for information on
domestic violence can type in that term and instantly
see and select all PAVTN courses covering that
specific topic. This project should be completed by
the end of Q4.
The micro-learning course project is moving along
as scheduled. By the end of this year we will have
bite-sized courses designed for quick, on-the-
go review. Officers can effortlessly swipe through
key information on their cell phones for a refresher
just before responding to a specific type of call for
service. These courses will serve as a convenient
recap for officers who have previously had training on
the topic. The micro-learning courses are:
•
Responding to Stalking Cases
•
Investigating Strangulation Cases
•
Protection From Abuse Orders
•
Responding to Domestic Violence Calls
