WINTER 2023 BULLETIN
TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
PAVTN
Hello everyone, it’s Ken Zipovsky
bringing you the winter edition of the
training and technology update. I
wanted to remind you that the 2024
MPOETC Legal Update Part 1 (24-
201) course is available on the PAVTN.
The remainder of the 2024 MIST
courses (24-201 Legal Update Part
2, 24-301 Suicide by Cop, 24-601
Community Relations, 24-602 Law
Enforcement Ethics) will be available
on January 1, 2024. Legal Update
and Community Relationships are
two mandatory courses for 2024.
In addition to the annual MIST
training, we are diligently working on
adding elective courses to make our
officers as informed and equipped as
we can. The Association is actively
working on classes covering Child
Abuse Investigation, and we are
partnering with the Pennsylvania
Attorney General’s Office to create a
course on Criminal Investigations of
Gun Crimes. Once these courses are
completed, they will be posted on the
PAVTN.
There are currently 73 training
courses on the PAVTN that you and
your officers can take. It is the goal
of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police
Association to provide the best
law enforcement training possible
delivered in an on-demand manner.
Using the PATVN is an easy, efficient,
and cost-effective way to provide
officers with quality training. All
the training on the PATVTN is free
of charge and can be accessed by
going to https://www.pavtn.net/ or
by using the links on the Association
web site.
Mobile Fingerprint
Identification Devices
The association continues to
administer the Mobile ID project for
Pennsylvania’s law enforcement
agencies. Mobile Fingerprint
Identification Devices are a great tool
that increase productivity by helping
officers identify subjects in the field.
At this moment there are 265 units
deployed by PA’s police agencies.
There is no cost for the agency to
acquire the unit. The annual all-
inclusive fee covering maintenance,
administration, and secure cellular
service is $1,025.00 per unit. This
price remains unchanged for 2024.
If your agency has an older Mobile ID
unit that is not functioning properly,
service is very simple to obtain. To
start the process, please contact
the support line at (866) 632-2780
(extension 3). Let the representative
know your device’s serial number,
and mention that your agency uses
a PA Chiefs of Police Mobile-ID
device. Advise them of your issues,
