SPRING 2024 BULLETIN
TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
PAVTN
Hello everyone, it’s Ken Zipovsky
bringing you the spring edition of
the training and technology update.
All the 2024 MPOETC MIST courses
are currently available on the PAVTN.
Legal Update and Community
Relationships are two mandatory
courses that all officers must take in
2024, and each officer still needs a
total of 12 hours of approved training
to maintain their certification.
Alongside the yearly MIST training,
we are actively striving to incorporate
optional courses that enhance the
knowledge and preparedness of our
officers. The Association is actively
working on developing classes
covering Child Physical Abuse,
Child Sexual Abuse, and Child
Pornography Investigations. We are
also partnering with the Pennsylvania
Attorney General’s Office to create a
course on Criminal Investigations of
Gun Crimes. Once these courses
are completed, they will be posted
on the PAVTN.
There are currently 89 training
courses on the PAVTN that you and
your officers can take. I am proud
to say that we now have achieved a
new PAVTN milestone: over 29,000
law enforcement professionals
now using the system for their
educational purposes. It is the goal
of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police
Association to provide the best
law enforcement training possible
delivered in an on-demand manner.
Using the PAVTN is an easy,
efficient, and cost-effective way to
provide officers with quality training.
All the training on the PAVTN is free
of charge and can be accessed by
going to https://www.pavtn.net/ or
by using the links on the Association
web site.
Upcoming In-Person
Training
The Association will be holding a one-
day classroom training on Leveraging
Technology in Investigations. This
course will be held on Wednesday,
April 10, 2024, at the Pennsylvania
Fish and Boat Commission
headquarters which is located at
1601 Elmerton Ave. Harrisburg,
PA 17110. The course is designed
to provide valuable information to
officers of all experience levels in
identifying, securing, and using
electronic evidence in investigations.
Additionally, those attending will
receive training to mitigate the
officer and his family’s exposure of
personal information.
Attendees will also leave the training
with a virtual toolbox of resources
to assist in their professional and
personal lives such as search warrant
