1 Direct S + Noun: Noun modification by sentence (= relative clause)
In English, you can modify nouns with sentences and create complex noun phrases, as below.
1. the teacher who is teaching at GW
The underlined modifying sentence qualifies what kind of teacher we are talking about. This kind of noun modification is called relative clause. Likewise, you can have noun modification by sentences in Japanese. You should note the following characteristics:

(i) The modifying sentence precedes the modified noun in Japanese (ii) There is no connecting element such as which, who, and that. (iii) You must use direct-style sentences for modifiers.

Use よ and や in place of ぺ because of a general constraint that prohibits ぺ in the
middle of a sentence.
