If the noun phrase can be translated either as a simple noun phrase or a complex noun phrase (= noun phrases containing sentence modification) as below, you should choose a simpler version.

On the other hand, the noun phrases below can only be translated as complex noun phrases.

Complex noun phrases are not different from simple noun phrases in that they appear in various places within a sentence.

Caution: Generally speaking, do not use the topic particle ら inside the modifying sentence. This is because the subject within a modifier is not the topic of the entire sentence. In the following sentence, the topic is “coffee” not “I.”
