3 〜て + ほしい: to want others to do something
The old pattern for expressing desire, -tai, is used when you want to do something yourself. The new pattern is used to express that you want someone else to do something.

買ってほしい。
I want you to buy it.
買ってほしかった。
I wanted you to buy it.
買ってほしくない。
I don’t want you to buy it.
買ってほしくなかった。
I didn’t want you to buy it.
1. 明日までにしゅくだいを出してほしい。
I want you to turn in your assignments by tomorrow.
2. 薬を買って来てほしい。
3. ホテルの予約(よやく)をしてほしい。
If you want to indiate who you want the action to be done by, use 〜に. 4. ルームメートに薬を買って来てほしい。
I want my roommate to go get medicine.
The following is ambiguous between two readings because に can mean “by” or “to”. 5. 私の父にそのことをちょっと話してほしいんです。
I want my father to talk about it.
I want you/him/her/them to talk to my father about it.
