3 Direct sentence + はずだ・はずです ‘my understanding is...’, ‘as far as I know...’, ‘X is supposed to be the case’
はずだ・はずです is used to express the speaker’s judgment as to what is true or likely, based on some reliable source. “Reliable source” could be objective information, the speaker’s past experience, or what others said. It is not a statement of a simple conjecture (as
in 〜だろう), but indicates that the speaker’s belief that the information or knowledge naturally points to such a conclusion, while s/he still is lacking conclusive evidence.
In (1) below, for example, the speaker might have checked the train schedule, someone told him the time the train will arrive, or he has taken the train before.
1. 電車は、六時に着くはずだから、ここで待ちましょう。 The train is supposed to arrive at 6, so let’s wait here.
はずだ・はずです is suffixed to the noun modification forms. Most are direct/plain forms. Exceptions are indicated with an asterisk *.
