I am convinced that the theological and ethical themes in the Gideon
narrative, as well as other Judges narratives, may be further developed.
This relates to the larger question of how the narratives of the Old Testa-
ment may function theologically and ethically in contemporary commu-
nities of faith-a matter worthy of further reflection.
