FAMILY LAW PROGRAM – DIVORCE, CUSTODY, SUPPORT
Very few organizations offer family law expertise to women in need. The majority of women who use the Family Law Program cannot afford an attorney and are going through the legal process for divorce without representation. They are seeking legal advice due to being in unhealthy relationships, many of which involve financial, physical, and / or psychological abuse.
WRC’s Family Law Program provides much needed expertise to the community by offering low cost or free half-hour legal consultations with a local family law attorney to advise on divorce, custody and support questions. The attorneys handling these issues work pro bono for the WRC. Attorney Kim Dudick of Saul Levit, LLC coordinates the Family Law Program.
Pre-pandemic, nine WRC volunteers provided hosting services at the Program’s four sites located throughout Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. The Program successfully transitioned from these in-person consultations to telephone-based consultations once the pandemic hit. WRC continues to safely offer virtual Family Law consultations six times monthly. In addition, WRC offers referrals to local affiliate attorneys who provide a one-time consultation for free or at a reduced rate.
Guide to Family Law
The WRC also publishes A Guide to Family Law in Pennsylvania, which was recently updated and is offered for $20 ($10 digitally). This up to date guide helps women understand the legal processes surrounding divorce, custody and support and the fees involved. It is a helpful and easy to read primer on common family law concerns.
