The role in the PA
Kalai Naidoo
I am responsible for policy and regulatory development in relation to financial institutions that are regulated and supervised by the Prudential Authority. My focus areas are financial conglomerates,
significant owners, co-operative banks and CFIs, governance (including remuneration), financial inclusion and transformation. I am also working on some banking frameworks such as the Market Risk Prudential Standard and the Credit Valuation Adjustment Prudential Standard. Policy and regulatory development require significant input from various subject matter experts (SMEs) throughout the PA and the SARB. A large portion of my role is to collaborate with SMEs and draft policy positions and regulatory instruments.
Fun facts
I play SUDOKU to relax, the harder the level - the more fun. I find the logic and perfection of the game very calming. I find myself learning everyday from my daughters - they are frustrating and inspirational😊. I am really interested in creating a world that embraces and values women
What is the hardest part about working virtually for you? The hardest part of working virtually is not being able to connect with people on a meaningful level. I miss the coffee breaks and quick lunches with colleagues. The greatest part is that my dogs think that I quit work and decided to spend the whole day with them while sitting in front of a computer.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Love is not real love, if it is based on any expectation. In love, the lover becomes one with the beloved, there is no spiritual practice greater than love, there is no law higher than love and there is no goal beyond love. Huzur Maharaj Charan Singh Ji (my Guru)
What book read/movie seen recently would you recommend and why? I am currently working my way through the Alex Rider series (Anthony Horowitz) as bedtime reading with my 12 year old. I look forward to this every night (who doesn’t love a great spy-kid novel). From a personal development perspective, I am reading A Radical Awakening by Dr Shefali – it was recommended by a friend and I think that every women should read this book and break free!
