TOOTING BEC 3
M’bango, Martin
Combined Counties league 28th of December, 2019 Chalky lane
ith Tooting Bec lying fourth in the ta-
Wble, this looked to be a tough match
for Chessington & Hook United, so to be
3-0 in the lead after 10 minutes was; to put it
mildly, a total shock, and Tooting seemed to
have had the stuffing knocked out of them.
Goals from Ellis Lentell, Robbie Burns and
Cameron Peters inflicted the damage.
Having worked some of their Christmas Pud-
ding off, Tooting were back in the match,
scoring straight from a corner kick. At 3-2 it
looked likely Tooting would equalise before
half-time, but United should have had a pen-
alty awarded when Anthony Ogbanufe was
clearly fouled by the keeper.
The second half began with Tooting going all
out for the equaliser but it was Chessington
& Hook United, through Cameron Peters,
who increased their lead. With Tooting scor-
ing again it was set to be a nail-biting finish
to the game. Ellis Lentell was booked for
time-wasting and frustration was beginning
to show, United clung on, much to the relief
of the players and staff.
Due to postponments, this was their first
league match since the 7th of December and
only the second in charge for new manager
Glen Nichols.
