 A MESSAGE
FROM BIDDY
More than two years on, it is incredibly heart-warming to see our hospice building used as we intended – for the essential care and support of patients, their families and whānau, living with terminal or life limiting illnesses in the Hutt Valley.
The journey to rebuild our hospice
began in 2012 following the Christchurch earthquakes. Our old building was assessed as earthquake prone, with parts meeting less than 13% of the new building standard, and the decision was made to rebuild it on the current site.
After a tremendous amount of work by
so many people in our community, the new hospice was completed and officially opened on 11 April 2019. It includes improved facilities, modern equipment and is energy efficient and sustainable. Being built to the latest building standards, it is also safe for our patients, their families and whānau, staff and volunteers.
The requirement to raise $10 million
to fund our new building was a steep challenge. Your generous and substantial
contribution, together with gifts from others, helped overcome this challenge and achieve our vision. You can read more about the difference you have made to the lives of those we care for in the pages overleaf.
Rebuilding Te Omanga Hospice was always about leaving a legacy for the people of the Hutt Valley; a special haven and place of refuge for people living with terminal and life limiting illnesses. We thank
you for partnering with us to make this happen and are eternally grateful for your generosity.
