This year the Fundraising, Communications and Retail teams needed to raise $5 million, around 45% of our funding needs to ensure our vital services remain available to all who need us. The balance is funded through contracts with Health New Zealand-Te Whatu Ora, enabling us to provide care to the Hutt Valley and Wairarapa communities.

 FUNDRAISING
We would like to thank and acknowledge everyone who has contributed to Te Omanga Hospice this year, in whatever way they have chosen to help. Our community has again rallied to support our vital work, despite the challenges inflation and high living costs have had on us all. We are deeply grateful to these incredible supporters who have stood by the Hospice during these difficult times.
While some of our appeals received fewer donations, the generosity of individuals grateful for the care their loved ones received, along with strong grants and events programmes, have been a tremendous help.
We really appreciate the unwavering generosity of individuals and businesses that donate regularly, providing a vital and steady stream of income to provide specialist palliative care for patients, and support for their loved ones. Those who contribute to providing a Day of Care, helping us cover some of the costs of caring for a patient at the end-of-life, are also truly appreciated.
This year, our Fundraising & Communications team celebrated a big milestone with the launch of the Hospice’s first email newsletter. Sent out periodically, our e-newsletter keeps supporters informed about the latest news and events at the Hospice while helping us manage costs more efficiently.
The team also forged a new partnership with Safewill, one of Australasia’s leading online Will providers. Whether someone has chosen to leave a gift in their Will to Te Omanga Hospice through their solicitor, the Public Trust, or an online provider like Safewill, we are extremely grateful. Their foresight and generosity in supporting the Hospice through their Will means the world to us.
Our grants programme has reached new heights this past year, with more grant providers than ever committed to funding the Hospice’s essential services. Amongst others, their generous support has enabled us to help fund salaries, replace the vehicles used by our Clinical team, provide Art Therapy packs, and install Smart TVs. We are profoundly grateful to the Trusts, Foundations, and other grant-making organisations for their unwavering support and encouragement.
We also continue to be well supported by Perpetual Trusts, where investment income from a named Trust is distributed to beneficiaries like the Hospice. We sincerely acknowledge and thank those who have chosen to support the Hospice in this way, whether during their lifetime or through a gift in their Will.
We extend our deepest thanks to the volunteer Vintners’ Lunch, and Golf Tournament Committees, as well as the incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly on the day of these events. A special thank you to our sponsors, businesses that donated prizes and all the amazing participants who came together to make these events a resounding success! We are also humbled by the generosity of those who volunteered for our Annual Street Appeal and thank them for their kindness.
Community groups and businesses have done an outstanding job of raising funds for the Hospice too. Highlights included two big golf tournaments, a vibrant quiz night, a fantastic pétanque fundraiser, and a charity motorcycle ride that continues to draw more riders each year.
