HOW, WHY, RU!
OVERVIEW:
Modern Health and Safety can be summed up simply in this question, have you thought about what you are doing? We have. Together as a team we write these HOW processes based on the safest, cost effective, quickest, best outcome, way of doing each task. Then the HOW process is coupled with a pre-writing Task Assessment or the WHY to the HOW. Final step is RU! Are you! We all need to be asked to slow down and self-evaluate from time to time. The RU! Is the final loop back to the start with a simple self QA.
This is not because I am a controlling dictator, in fact I have been told by some of my staff in the past that I could definitely rain them in a little more than I do. This is to set the standard right form the start. It gives you a benchmark of standards to hold your team to and deflect the reasons if you would like to!
I believe you can’t tell someone they have done something wrong if you haven’t been clear about how you would like it done in the first place.
Read on for more information about each section:
With a clear understanding of why and how we do the things we do, this policy will ensure our work is completed safely and to a high standard- each time every time. We have developed a bench mark standard for a continually growing number of tasks. We have written up processes on how we expect tasks to be completed. This helps refresh staff if they haven’t completed this task in a while or gives a little more confidence to the apprentices while doing this for the first few times. Along with the process on how, we have written up a number of Task Analysis. This basically shows that we have thought about how to complete the task in the safest manner.
Following all this is personal and peer review on the outcome of the task or project completed. The simple thought that some one will be watching encourages everyone to do the NEATEST job possible.
