Trade mark protection
The Registration of United Kingdom
Trade Marks Ordinance [Chapter 180]
has governed trademark registration in the Solomon Islands since 1939. In order to obtain trade mark protection in the Solomon Islands, the applicant must first obtain a United Kingdom registration. The applicant can extend this protection to the Solomon Islands.
A Madrid Registration cannot be used for a Solomon Island trade mark application.
Patent protection
In order to obtain patent protection in the Solomon Islands, the applicant must first own a United Kingdom patent. The applicant can extend this protection through to the Solomon Islands.
The application for extension must be completed within 3 years of the date of grant of the United Kingdom patent.
Design protection
A design registration obtained in the United Kingdom extends to the Solomon Islands.
