TUVALU IS LOCATED IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC. IT IS AN INDEPENDENT ISLAND NATION WITHIN THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH COMPRISING OF THREE REEF ISLANDS AND SIX ATOLLS. TUVALU HAS A POPULATION OF OVER 11,000.
Trade mark protection
The Registration of United Kingdom
Trade Marks Ordinance [Chapter 180]
has governed trademark registration in Tuvalu since 1939. Therefore, a trade mark application for Tuvalu must be based on a United Kingdom trade mark. A European Union mark will not suffice.
Patent protection
A patent application must be based on a UK registration. To extend protection, the applicant will need to file their application within three years of the filing date of the UK application.
Design protection
A design registration existing in the UK will extent to Tuvalu.
