The Lotos Club

About
TI1e La tos Club was founded in 1870 by a small group who
were brought together by a desire to have a place to go to
enjoy conversation and good company and to share their
interests in the arts and sciences. Their idea was that the
Latos Club should be different more inclusive, more
comfortable, more active and more enjoyable than other
clubs available in N ew York at that time. This is a
philosophy that has guided La tos ever since. The Club's
earliest m embers included Mark Twain, who called La tos
"The Ace of Clubs."

Since 1977, the Club's membership has included women.
La tos members come to the Club to meet with friends,
dine, and attend events sponsored by the Club, including
lectures, concerts, cocktail parties and State Dinners
honoring men and women of high achievement. Members
of the La tos Club are deservedly proud of their magnificent

clubhouse at Five E ast 66 Street, which has been the
Club's home since 1947.
