Royal Canin/AKC National Championship
Meet the Breeds
By Judge Ms. Mary L. Wuest
In conjunction with the Royal Canin/AKC National
Championship Shows, Meet the Breeds took place on
Saturday and Sunday, December 17 & 18, 2016.
It was a very busy week for the North Florida Chow Chow
Club. In addition to our Supported Entry on Wednesday and
our Independent Specialty on Friday, NFCCC members had
the task of setting up our booth for Meet the Breeds. Due to
all the activity taking place that week it took us three days to
set it up. Little did we know it would be well worth the effort.
With the help of Pat Kennedy, Rhonda Prince, Sherry
Burroughs and Mary Wuest the booth came together out of
the midst of boxes, poles, signs, plastic wrap, duct tape, etc.
We stuffed bags for handouts and sat back and waited for the
pubic to appear which did not take long. With Odalys Hayes’
help on Sunday afternoon we dismantled the booth which
fortunately was much easier than setting it up.
The aisles were crowded with people on Saturday and
Sunday. It was evident the public took advantage of Meet the
Breeds and went from booth to booth asking questions and
petting dogs. We passed out over 300 bags which contained
the CCCI brochure on the Chow, an article on our Majestic
Breed, coloring pages, crayons, water bottles, pencils, pens,
candy, fortune cookies. A little bit of something for everyone.
Our booth has always drawn a crowd because people are
so interested in Chows and have stories to tell. It doesn’t
hurt that we had two little Chow girls dressed in Christmas
dresses. With the help of the following members and their
dogs the public had an opportunity to talk to knowledgeable
Chowists, pet some furry dogs, and get to know our beloved
breed:
A BIG THANK YOU to Pat Kennedy with Maggie Mei;
Rhonda Prince with Star, Ella, & Peaches; Brianna (BB) Milam
with Angel; Lynette White with Ricky; Amy Young with
Summer; Paulo Clerice with Gigi; Odlays with Diva; Pam Fehr
with Emerson, and Monique Danielle with Mei Ling & Ming
Toy. From all the kisses given and received it appears the
public enjoyed meeting Chows and I think the Chows liked it
too.
Thanks also go to Margaret DiCorleto and Dr. Joyce
Dandridge for holding dogs and helping man the booth.
The NFCCC would like to thank everyone who took time
from their busy schedule to be a part of our booth and talk
to the public. Everyone’s support was a big step in not only
helping to educate the public but also earned our
booth a 4th Place Ribbon in the Non-Sporting Group
Photo Credits: ShowSight Magazine was the sponsor of the Best Booth for Meet the Breeds. It was an unexpected and
contest, Joe McGinnis the Publisher was the ribbon presenter and David
