Chow Fanciers Association of Southern California

This year, the two California Chow Clubs, Chow
Fanciers Association of Southern California and
Redwood Coast Chow Chow Club, came together
and held back-to- back Concurrent Specialties in
conjunction with the Sun Maid Kennel Club of
Fresno. Sun Maid Kennel Club has a Mardi Gras
theme complete with a small parade and jazz band
during the lunch hour. People dress up in their
best Mardi Gras outfits, making for a fun show
atmosphere.
Despite the days before the show being some of
the rainiest of the winter, the actual show was
mostly bright and sunny. CFA had a nice entry of
28 Chows with five in Puppy Sweeps and four in
Veteran Sweeps.
Our breed judge was Michelle T. Schultz and she
chose GCHB Asans Twilight’s Aki I Am The First
owned by Anita Sanders and Leah Ellison as her
Best of Breed winner with GCH CH Dreamland’s
The Adventure Continues BCAT FITS owned by
Layla Loveless and Michael & Linda Brantley as
her Best of Opposite Sex. Winners Dog/Best of
Winners went to Monsoon I Am A Big Deal owned
by Derrick Ng and Katie Mirabelli. Winners Bitch
was The Journey of Olive Mi Laska CGC owned
by Wendy & Carl Costello. Select Dog was CH
Buddakan Leonardo Davinci owned by David &
Patrina Rothrock and Karen Tracy. Select Bitch
was Cross B Sweet and Sassy @ Donsue owned by
Don and Sue Avila.
at the Hunterdon K-9 Center LLC,| 631 NJ Rt. 12,
Flemington, NJ on May 18th. While it will be too
late to enter by the time this issue is published,
keep an eye out for another AKC Chow Match/
find matches these days.
We wish everyone a happy Summer..
Our sweeps judge was Brenda Jensen and her
pick for Best Puppy was Eastern Magic Fly Over
Pacific owned by Layla Loveless, Michael & Linda
Brantley and Matthew Fan. Best Opposite in
Puppy Sweeps was Monsoon Pearl of the Orient
owned by Lee Ann D. Chen.
Trophies for BOB, BOS and BOW were beautiful
shadowbox framed money ribbons which attracted
a lot of attention from other breed exhibitors as
well. We also held our usual raffle with many nice
raffle packages. In addition to our regular raffle,
we raffled off a Best In Show trolley. Tickets for
this raffle were $10 each. The trolley was won by
a Pomeranian exhibitor who purchased just two
tickets.
Lunch for both clubs was provided by Derrick
Ng who came up with some delicious dishes for
exhibitors and guests to enjoy.
As both clubs felt this show was a great success,
we are making plans now to hold back-to-back
specialties with Redwood Coast again next year.
Our next specialty will be held at the Mission
Circuit cluster on Saturday, May 24, 2025 in San
Bernardino. Plans are also in the works to hold
our first Fast Cat Trial sometime in the fall, once
the weather cools off.
