                                            The Chow

To a Chowist there are only Chows With cat-like paws they "pat a ball"

No other dog will do, And frowns crease head and jowl.
And once you've got to know them Just let them spot a rabbit
You'll feel the same way too. And you should hear them howl.

The puppies are not chowlike, They're not like any other dog,
But just like Teddy Bears, They will not fawn for praise.
With little "plastic" noses But once they have accepted you
And quite devoid of fears. They are yours for all their days.

And as they grow, they change so much, To convince you I've no need to try
Come coats of thickest fur. I'll say just wait and see,
When loved & stroked, they close their eyes For a steadfast friend through thick & thin
I'll swear they almost purr. Is what your Chow will be.

With lion mane and tongue blue black And when at last his race is run
No other dog you'll find And homeward he must go,
You simply can't ignore them, His loving trust and faithfulness
To do that you'd be blind. Remains, as you well know.

Some people like the red ones, For a Chow is not forgotten
And others only blacks. When in life he's played his part.
There's blue and cream and shaded red His memory every lingers
With tails high on their backs. In his loving owner's heart.
                                                                                                  - Anonymous –
