President’s
Message by Dave Cook
We are just weeks away from the 2020 National Specialty and hopefully everyone has
already sent in their entries and made their hotel reservations. If not, do it now before
it’s too late and you miss out on all the fun that we will have in Niagara Falls with the
three regional specialties along with the National Specialty. It’s also not too late to help
make this year’s National Specialty a big success by being a sponsor, donating to the
trophy fund and donating money or items for the hospitality bags.
The fun will not stop there as following our National Specialty will be three days of Canadian shows
including the Canadian National Specialty and the Chow Chow Fanciers of Ontario Specialty just a short
distance away in Thorold, Ontario. This is a rare opportunity to attend the National Specialty and to try
and obtain a Canadian Championship on your Chow as well. Please note that entries are limited and if
you plan on entering do so early.
Plans for next year’s National Specialty is well under way and make sure you clear your calendar for
April 19th through the 22nd for the 2021 National Specialty at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg in Camp
Hill, Pennsylvania with the Southern Chow Chow Club as our host.
The Board continues to work on the 2022 National Specialty which will be held west of the Mississippi
River and details will be announced at the Annual Membership Meeting in Niagara Falls.
If you have not visited the Chow Club’s new website, I highly encourage you to do so. The new website
is a big step forward for the club and my appreciation goes out to Phil DeGruy for all his hard work in
creating the new website.
As always, it is an honor to serve as your President and please feel free to contact me should you have
any suggestions or concerns by email at huchu@aol.com or on my cell at (630) 878-2019. I look forward
to seeing everyone in a few weeks in Niagara Falls.
Note from the Editor
The New Year often has people thinking about fresh starts and changes. Starting with this issue, your
mailing label now shows an abbreviation for when your subscription expires. The abbreviation is the
first 2 letters of the issue and the year. For example, if your subscription expires with the Winter 2020
issue, WI20 is indicated on your label. The issue listed is the last one you will receive with your current
subscription, unless you renew. Hopefully, this will let you keep track of your subscription so you don’t
miss an issue.
2020 will be a year of change and transition for me. Over the next several months, Lew & I will
be moving from New Jersey to New Mexico and will be splitting our time between the two
states. The Chow Life email address (chowlife2018@gmail.com) will not change. However,
when we’re traveling, it may take me a little extra time to respond to emails, but I will
normally reply within 24-48 hours. I will keep you posted on the transition, but for now
my mailing address has not changed. Once I’ve fully moved to New Mexico, I will
send out a notification with my new mailing address.
I also need you to help keep Chow Life on schedule and being completed in a timely
manner by submitting your ads and payments by the issue’s deadline.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone & having a good time at the National
this April and I wish everyone Good Luck at the upcoming shows in 2020.
