When a man is angry, his brain is excited, which strengthens his muscles.
This in turn gives energy to his will, and his body is ready for an
“instant action”. The muscles tremble, as the “muscular system”
is affected by extreme anger. The mind concentrates, and the blood
rush to the head. However, Darwin pointed out to what
was mentioned by Dr. Maudsley as a conclusion to the
“destructive disposition, the obscene language, the
wild howl”, and “the offensive habits”, and to the
causes that could lead a man to unreasonable savage
actions, that make him a brutal character. Dr.
Maudsley explained that unless the person has a “brute
nature within him”, he can never act in this manner.
