STATEMENT
I am an Egyptian visual artist, designer, art instructor, and former museum curator. Since graduation, I have been interested in
the subject of Human violence, ethical decadence, and the brutal acts around the world. According to this theme, I have created
paintings, drawings, and digital and video installations that I designed as a proposal with no practical implementation.
The early practice of the subject matter has been represented in my work through combinations of distorted anatomical parts
of human body with other animal body forms. I was influenced by the work of Max Ernst, and Francis Bacon more than being
influenced by the subject matter.
Through an in-depth research in the subject, I’ve been introduced to a number of publications that explore human and animal
sensibility and feelings, and causes of violence of both of them, and that both of them share some of the same emotions, which
control and manage behavior through their “adaptive and integrative functions”, and help in the daily activities. This is in addition
to the six methods that Darwin applied to the study of emotional expression; “observations of infants”, “observations of the
insane”, “judgments of facial expressions” , analyses of artworks, “cross-cultural comparisons of expressions and gestures”, and
“observations of animal expressions”.
In 2018. my interest expanded into three more issues; the relationship between art, science, and technology, new media art and its
impact on debating scoietal and scientific subjects, and the collaboration of the artistic practice and the innovation process, which
I explored through an article that was published in the «International Journal of Education and Social Science», in 2019.
Recently, I have triangulated those three issues through the subject matter of my work, as well as, my interest in New Media
Art to conduct a number of research papers that explore the similarities and differences between human and animal violence
and aggressive behavior. The research is accompanied with artisitc symbolic drawings inspired by the scientific explanation, and
represent an indirect interpretation. The ancient studies and manuscripts of different scientists who used to draw illustrations to
explain their subject, came as an inspiration to this research project.
This research project that I started few months ago, will be developed in the future to create an online interactive book, which
will be a refernce for both scientists and artists. However, the interaction process has not been defined yet. In addition, The
advanced chapters will go through further concepts, such as; cyborg anthropology, and cybernetics, as a further interpretation of
the difference between predator animals and the term «Monster».
