A Foreword for Parent in

                   the Time of COVID-19

During this time of social isolation, we parents can feel overwhelmed. The

days are long when parenting disoriented children, who have been flung

from their routines into weeks or months of relatively unstructured time at

home. Similarly, our children are overwhelmed. They sense our

uncertainty, and sometimes our fear. They may be anxious, regress, be

more emotional, or more defiant. We are facing this without our usual

support systems, and often without a break. This book is a good reminder

to talk to our kids. Take time to reassure our children that scientists and

doctors are working on learning as much as they can, while we empower

our kids to be helpers! Remind them that by washing their hands, covering

their coughs, and staying away from their friends, they are helping their

    community.

Mr. Roger told us to “look for the helpers”.

Maddie is reminding us that even the littlest

among us can be a helper. Our little helpers

help by creating sunshine in our day, and

    eliciting soul-rejuvenating

    belly laughs.
