Market Overview (Canada)
Canada has begun the second phase of a 15-year plan to remediate 22,000 sites at a cost of $7.7 billion. The cost to remediate Canadian soil and water contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbon is estimated at $1 billion.
Moderate to high growth is expected for Canada’s environmental remediation market.
Canada represents about 1.7% of the global market for environmental goods and services, highlighting signi cant global demand opportuni- ties for Canadian  rms.
With sales valued at more than $18.4 billion, the environmental market in Canada consists of some 8 500  rms generating environmental exports currently worth more than $1.5 billion per year. Small  rms (fewer than 100 employees) form the majority (96 percent) of the country’s environmental companies.
