The Dragon and the Poor Villager
Ayush Roy, Age 9
Once upon a time, there lived the King of Terdlandia. Everyone who lived in the kingdom
of Terdlandia were very happy. But they did not know that there lived a dragon in the
mountains next to the kingdom. The dragon kept to himself and ate the animals in the
mountain. He also swallowed Hot sauce to get his power to breathe fire. However, one
day, there were no animals left. So, the hungry dragon wanted to go to the kingdom of
Terdlandia to eat some people.
Once the dragon reached the kingdom of Terdlandia, he threatened to eat everyone in
the kingdom if they did not give him hot sauce. Everyone gave him some hot sauce. The
people didn’t know that the hot sauce made the dragon breathe fire, and made him
stronger, which is exactly what the dragon wanted. But there was a poor villager who
had a different plans. The dragon asked for some hot sauce. Though poor, the man was
well read about dragons, and he knew their weakness was ice-cubes. “I will get the hot
sauce from my kitchen,” he said to the dragon. When he went to the kitchen to get the
hot sauce, he mixed some ice-cubes with it. Without noticing, the hungry dragon drank
the hot sauce. But since there were ice-cubes inside, the dragon lost his power and
stumbled all the way back to the mountains and never came back.
Next day, the King rewarded the poor villager by giving him ten thousand gold coins.
Now, instead of being poor, he was the richest man in town besides the king. Once
again, the people of Terdlandia lived happily ever after.
