The primary library program fosters a love of reading and places an emphasis on
information literacy skills. Students learn to use the library independently in order
to find and enjoy books of choice. Students experience the various genres of
literature and learn characteristics of each as the years progress.
Elements of literature such as character, plot sequence and setting are highlighted. Students are provided with
instruction in early research and note-taking skills and are given opportunities for application of these skills.
Students become comfortable with using the school’s OPAC – online public access catalog – to identify and locate
books of interest for pleasure reading or to fill an information need. Technology use is encouraged and opportunities
for growth in day-to-day use of available technology are provided. Book checkout is available on a daily basis.
