PSSA ELA
Results and Findings
● Pine-Richland students outperformed the state average at all levels of the PSSA ELA
assessment.
● Pine-Richland students outperformed the top decile benchmark for combined
advanced/proficient performance at all grade levels (i.e., top 10% of schools in
Pennsylvania).
○ Third grade increased their performance in the area of informational text,
specifically within E3.B-C2, from 60.2% in 2018 to 77.9% in 2019. While it still
remains a relative area of opportunity, the number of students considered
proficient and advanced increased and surpassed the performance of students with
literature texts.
○ When comparing the 2018 and 2019 grade level achievement in ELA, the percentage of
students at the advanced/proficient levels increased by 5% in grade 4, with 90% of
students in the Advanced/Proficient range, including 56% in the Advanced range on the
ELA PSSA assessment.
○ When comparing TDA scores from 2017, 2018, and 2019, Pine-Richland 4th Grade
students have shown a steady increase in scores on the Text-Dependent Analysis question
on the ELA PSSA.
○ When comparing the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 grade level achievement, the
percentage of students at the advanced/proficient levels remained between 81% and 84%.
● The analysis of student performance by PA ELA Assessment Anchors helps us
understand areas of relative strength and need with a higher level of meaning. While
there are many strengths, the opportunities by grade span for improvement include:
○ Grade 3
■ E3.A-C.2 Craft and Structure/Integration of Knowledge and Ideas

■ E3.D.1 Language
● Conventions of Standard English
○ Grade 4
