Well, he's not referring to death itself. He
knows he's going to die. He's not referring
to being saved from the persecutors. I
mean, he's being persecuted. He's in prison;
he was expecting execution. So what is he
saying? I believe that when he says in this
verse that “the Lord shall deliver me from
every evil work,” he's saying that God will
keep him pure. I believe he's saying that
God will keep him holy. I believe he's saying
that God will keep his faith steady. I believe
he's saying to you and me that he did not
want to shrink from facing death for Christ's
sake; he did not want to compromise; he did
not want to go into apostasy; he did not
want to revert back and apostatize and
blaspheme the name of the Lord. So I
