We cannot serve, you cannot serve, I cannot
serve God and mammon. “And having food
and raiment let us be therewith content” (1
Timothy 6:8). Let us serve God and be faithful.
Yes, we've got to work and we've got to make
money, but let us serve God and follow Him
and be pleasing to Him, and He says that He'll
supply the things that we need — and I believe
that we really need to pray and search the
Scripture when we spend money and buy
things. In other words, hold loosely to these
worldly goods because one day we've got to
leave them. I quoted Jim Elliot recently, a
missionary martyred for Christ, and he said,
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to
gain that which he cannot lose.”
